Conquered the Big Climb!

Big Climb for leukemia

My son and I did it! We made it to the top of the Columbia Center for this year’s Big Climb. I was a bit apprehensive since I hadn’t done any preparatory exercising. I paced myself though so the climb went slower than last year but I made it without any problems. My legs felt like lead for the first several floors but then the old body kicked in and the rest of the climb went well. Of course I was huffing and puffing all the way, taking several rest stops. My in-shape son however breathed calmly through his nose the whole way as if the climb was having no effect on him. But he patiently stayed with his old man instead of hurrying ahead.

Truth is I’m not sure I’d do this every year if it wasn’t for my son. He’s always been an inspiration to me. As some of you know, he is a firefighter. Hence the reason he’s in such good shape. He is also a hero to me. I’m so proud of him.

I want to thank Jaimi and Sheila for your kind donations to the Big Climb. Your money goes directly towards support and research in the fight against Leuk.

This was my fourth year climbing. I’ll be doing it again next year but this time around I plan on preparing better by exercising a WHOLE lot more.
