Baby Boomer still kick’n

Apollo 11 Crew, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins

Hi all. Well, I’m a month away from my 66th birthday. In my head I still think I’m about 35 years old, but my body seems to have a problem with that. Brains says, “I can lift that.” Back says, “Ah, no, I don’t think so.”

At times I find myself whining about getting older, then I remember getting old is a good thing. Especially with leukemia in the background getting older is a blessing.

I ran into a friend yesterday whom I haven’t seen in at least 20 years. Surprise, surprise, he’s older too. His hair’s gray… but unlike me he still has all of it.

It was good to reminisce about our younger days. Geez, listen to me, I sound like an old man. Okay, so what if Eisenhower was President when I was born? So what if I was in 6th grade when Kennedy was shot. I was 17 when Walter Cronkite televised Neil and Buzz landing on the moon while Michael orbited above. I’m guessing that for my younger readers Eisenhower, Kennedy, and the moon landing are all ancient history. Hmmmm. Well, not for us Baby Boomers.

At least, that is, the Baby Boomers who survived the era of “sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.” (I managed to not do drugs… hey, one out of three’s not bad!).

Anyway, point is, we’re all getting older. And believe me young’ns, it goes faster than you think it will.

As for me, I’m just happy to be above ground.
